Globetrotting Yacht Acala Is on Amazing Journeys: Sunday Superyacht Video

The yacht Acala is rewarding her owners for waiting a few years as she reached completion at Cantiere delle Marche (CdM). Better yet, she’s providing them with exactly what they wanted in the first place. The megayacht is currently in the Red Sea, weeks after departing the Med—and with thousands more nautical miles ahead.

Commissioned for taking on the world’s oceans and dive sites, Acala belongs to a repeat shipyard client. Their previous yard project was a Darwin 102, bearing the same name. At 141 feet (43 meters), their new custom creation provides them with a larger, more robust explorer. She further provides them with a much more detailed and comprehensive specifications list. Even Cantiere delle Marche says it was the most exhaustive specs it had ever worked on, requiring 12 month of dedication. Additionally, the goal on all sides was to eliminate major modifications during the build. “We joke around saying that we have built the smallest 80-meter yacht ever,” says Vasco Buonpensiere, CdM’s co-owner and CEO. (He’s not necessarily wrong. Immediately prior to commissioning this project, the owners had a 78-meter/256-footer.)

With a reported range exceeding 7,500 nautical miles at 10 knots, the yacht Acala will cruise some of the world’s most remote regions. Exploration above—and below—the water are passions for this family. In fact, while they ventured to some extraordinary places with their Darwin 102, further unspoiled dive spots are on their itinerary this time.

When they’re not diving, the family can relax amid a voluminous onboard atmosphere. Simon Hamui, a Mexican designer with whom they’d collaborated previously, says, “Understanding how the family and their guests live as a group when traveling determined the specific function, style, and capacity of all indoor and outdoor spaces.” Hamui and his team further designed nearly all of the furnishings. They mixed in well-known brands and chose artwork to complement the custom choices. Some rooms, like the main saloon, are quite cozy, too. Regardless, “the choice of subtle colors creates a relaxing atmosphere,” Hamui adds. “The general idea was to create a very informal, relaxed, and carefree environment without sacrificing sophistication and well-appointed details.”
