Yacht My Alma, First Sanlorenzo 57 Steel, Amazing Her Owners

A family eager to begin cruising aboard the yacht My Alma can finally do so, amid her welcoming, warm ambience. She’s the first Sanlorenzo 57 Steel superyacht delivery, with features borrowed from much bigger boats.

Firstly, the 57 Steel series encompasses five decks, plus affords a volume of 1,050 gross tons. The owner, who’s enjoyed cruising aboard yachts previously, and his family all got involved in the design and layout when construction started in 2021. Among the special requests, for instance, is a full-beam VIP suite forward on the main deck, rather than the master suite. Naturally, windows rim it forward, to let guests wake up to the ever-changing views. The owners’ suite, meanwhile, is on the upper deck, essentially turning the deck into a private oasis. Their sleeping space is forward, benefitting from the vistas, along with alfresco space fully aft. Four remaining guest staterooms are below decks.

Yet another arranagement from bigger boats, the wheelhouse is on the top deck. Although the itinerary that the yacht My Alma will pursue is confidential, her captain and crew of 11 (making for a 1-to-1 crew-to-guest ratio) can point her bow from here toward distant shores. Best range is 4,000 nautical miles, and top speed is 18 knots. Interestingly, and significantly, the crew also benefits from the bigger-boat approach. They have a full level under the lower deck for keeping provisions and long-term stowage.

In working with Vickers Studio for the interior, the family further prioritized relaxation throughout the yacht. For example, they have a big gym and spa on the lower deck, plus a separate massage room on the main deck. They’ll be able to pass the popcorn on the main deck, too, thanks to a cinema. Even formal dinners together will have an air of relaxation, due to the views. This dining area sits on the upper deck.

With a glass-bottomed pool filtering light into her beach club, the yacht My Alma has been a long time coming for her family. Geoff Moore, West Nautical’s managing director, notes how construction began during the pandemic. It made for “an enjoyable but challenging build,” he says. But, with delivery having taken place, the megayacht is “now ready for use under much better circumstances!”

West Nautical will continue managing My Alma on behalf of the family. In the meantime, more Sanlorenzo 57 Steel models (part of the yard’s Superyacht Division) are under construction. Hull number two has already seen delivery, too, just a few weeks ago. Her name is Virtuosity. Overall, the shipyard offers both traditional diesel propulsion, like Alma has, as well as diesel-electric propulsion for the series.
