The Bad Company Support 175 yacht is about to start an incredible ongoing global voyage with her owner. That owner, American entrepreneur Anthony Hsieh (below), is using her as part of his Bad Company fishing fleet to fulfill a lifelong dream.
The story behind the support yacht is simple. Hsieh is chasing giant billfish around the world. Part of this includes tagging and releasing giant marlin to help support scientific study. “Every day, every minute, we want to make sure we have a hook in the water,” Hsieh explains. “If we don’t really understand the ocean, it could be a point of no return,” he adds, noting that humanity has more knowledge about space than the ocean.
Hsieh started deep-see fishing and conservation efforts in earnest with his fleet in 2022. The fleet already included a support yacht, specifically a 151-foot (46-meter) Damen Yachting project he acquired as a brokerage buy. That project, the Bad Company Support 150 yacht, remains in Hsieh’s hands but is for sale. His new support yacht, meanwhile, is hull number one of the Damen Yachting Yacht Support 53 series. LOA: 175 feet (53.25 meters). Still in Turkey at press time, the new yacht will head to Spain to join some of the dedicated sportfishing boats in the fleet.
Those boats will crane onto and off of her decks during their travels. Additionally, the Bad Company Support 175 yacht will carry a helicopter. Damen Yachting added a heli hangar at Hsieh’s request to stow it. (The Damen Yachting Support models all are adaptable to customers’ requests beyond interior-based design details.) Of course, the support yacht further has staterooms and amenities for Hsieh and his fishing crew. A hot tub is one of them, for example, as is a saloon-turned-strategy meeting room.
“Today marks a significant chapter in the advancement of the world tour and my life,” Hsieh shares on social media, further including photos detailing construction. “Watching her come to life with the first sheet of cut steel to a purposeful designed mothership that is ready to embark on a global fishing adventure. She will see some incredible places as she travels the world. I would like to thank the entire crew of the 175, and a big shout out to Ryan our engineer.”
