Why shouldn’t a superyacht set to be the center of many a photograph have a photogenic setting for her debut? Monte Carlo Yachts adopted this philosophy in selecting the famous San Giorgio Maggiore island of Venice for the debut of the MCY 96 this weekend. The yacht cruised into view along the Grand Canal in front of about 400 invited guests.
The MCY 96 is Monte Carlo Yachts’ second superyacht, inspired by the sales success of the MCY 105. The new series is already enjoying some success, too. The first three hulls already had buyers by the time Monte Carlo Yachts publicly announced it in January. To keep continuity with the 105, as well as her smaller sisters, the MCY 96 features design inside and out by Nuvolari-Lenard. Note the circular ports below decks, particularly the overlapping ones. It’s a signature styling element.
As the name states, the yacht measures 96 feet (29.26 meters) in length. Making the 22’8” (6.94-meter) beam feel even more open, sliding glass doors flank the main-deck dining area. The master stateroom takes advantage of the main deck, too, additionally featuring a large skylight. The above-mentioned signature ports lend a special ambiance to the VIP stateroom below.
Since the series is semi-custom, the MCY 96 allows owners to tailor the interior. Thus far Monte Carlo Yachts hasn’t revealed what the owner of hull number one requested in terms of configuration or woods and other materials. Regardless, four total guest staterooms can sit below decks. The builder has six different configurations for cabins, too.
Still on the subject of choice, buyers can request different classification. RINA Pleasure and RINA Charter Class, for example, are available. Furthermore, you can request the yacht meets MCA’s requirements for MGN 280, which governs small yachts offered for charter. It’s rare to have this much flexibility in a semi-custom superyacht series.
Sea trials should confirm an anticipated 27-knot top speed and cruise speed around 24 knots. Two engine packages are available for the series. The standard is twin 2,200-hp MTUs. The other is twin 1,900-hp MANs.
Monte Carlo Yachts will take the MCY 96 to both the Cannes Yachting Festival and Monaco Yacht Show in September.
Expect more superyacht models from this Italian builder in the coming years. Thus far it won’t reveal what sizes it’s considering, but it does plan to keep growing its reach.
