If you’re familiar with the megayacht models from Cantieri di Pisa, surely you recognize the named Akhir. This was one of the Italian yard’s most famous models, achieving significant success in the 1980s and 1990s. Cantieri di Pisa has revived the Akhir name and design, echoing elements of its past while bringing it squarely into the modern day in the form of the Akhir 42S.
Deriving part of her name from her LOA (42 meters, or 138 feet), the Akhir 42S is styled by Luca Dini Design, with naval architecture from Mondomarine Engineering, a division of Cantieri di Pisa’s sister shipyard, Mondomarine. Dini says he strove to preserve the overall initial profile created by Tommaso Spadolini, with some contemporary modifications. Note, for example, the arch—what Dini and Cantieri di Pisa aptly term the “roll bar.” It’s shifted forward in comparison to its position on the original Akhir. The air intakes are also still prominent on the upper part of the superstructure, though not as stylistically aggressive.
Inside, while buyers of the Akhir 42S can appoint their own designer, Dini does have several decor designs ready to go. They pay homage to the Cantieri di Pisa tradition of employing abundant wood. The dining area concept below gives you a good idea of how that happens. The same wood treatment carrying up overhead can be used in the master suite and other rooms, too. It translates to quite a dramatic effect for the 25’9” (7.9-meter) beam.
This is not to say that the all-aluminum Akhir 42S lacks completely new features. In fact, the entire layout is reflective of how today’s buyers like to live on the water. There’s the ubiquitous beach club, completely dedicated to relaxation. The primary tender stows just forward and launches via a side hatch to preserve the transom for the beach club. The Akhir 42S additionally places the master suite on the main deck and further includes balconies to each side. Perhaps the most noteworthy addition to the Akhir 42S, though, is the raising skylounge roof. See the image below: The full structure rises up a few feet for more of an open-air experience.
Powered by twin MTU 16V 2000 M94s, the Akhir 42S should see a cruising speed of 21 knots and best range of 2,000 nautical miles at 12 knots. Given a 6’2” (1.9-meter) draft, that will allow pulling in to plenty of marinas and somewhat shallow anchorages. She’ll be built to RINA classification and be LY3 compliant as well.
