Electric-powered systems have been around for some time, yet yachts still rely heavily on hydraulics. Excepting the MTU engines and gensets, every system aboard the newly delivered Majesty 120 is electric. Add in her trideck, semi-custom configuration, and Majesty Yachts believes buyers will like what they see.
Announced in 2019, the model actually traces her origins back an additional two years. According to Abeer Alshaali, acting CEO for Majesty Yachts, the management team decided to consolidate its lineup and further add value by distinguishing between sizes. The Majesty 120 would therefore become the so-called entry-level trideck. Additionally, steering, thrusters, stabilizers, balconies, the passerelle, and more would all rely on electric power vs. hydraulics.
The decision to switch to electric power was not difficult. Electric-powered systems require less maintenance than hydraulic ones, for instance. It means no oil-carrying pipes running through the yacht. Additionally, the technology reduces disruptive sound. “We’re always open to trialing new things on our yachts with our suppliers,” says Alshaali. Plus, the harsh climate in Majesty Yachts’ home of the United Arab Emirates means “if it works here, you can pretty much guarantee it will work anywhere.”
Of course, yacht buyers judge with their eyes first. Therefore, styling and interior design were equally important. Alshaali says that with the small private viewings that Majesty Yachts has hosted thus far, most clients comment on the profile first. This 121-footer (37-meter), with a beam of 26 feet (8.1 meters), has the large swaths of glass that today’s customers want. The Majesty 120 further has an ornamental glass railing.
Feature-wise, the yard says the yacht offers 30 percent more alfresco areas compared to similar-size yachts. This includes a beach club, which instead can be a tender garage. Inside, meanwhile, the big talking point is the lounge area in the lobby below decks. Families appreciate how their kids can play video games here while the grownups relax above decks. Typically, a room like this appears only on larger megayachts. It results aboard the Majesty 120 due to an asymmetrical layout.
