Having started her sea trials in mid-December, hull number one of the McConaghy MC82p yacht series is nearly ready for delivery. The yacht Bundalong plans to head to warm Asian waters and call them home.
McConaghy Boats, with facilities in China and Australia, created the series as a family-friendly option for long-range cruising or weekend coastal trips. Although some yacht owners may know it for its winning racing yachts, the shipyard additionally builds multihulls. Power and sailing yachts, along with superyachts, are further among its projects. Regardless of type, all feature advanced composite construction.
As part of the power-cat series, the yacht Bundalong, a 78-footer (24-meter), looks and feels roomy. Headroom, for instance, ranges from 6’6” to nearly 7’5” feet (2 to 2.3 meters) throughout. Additionally, due to her catamaran configuration, she has a wide beam, 33 feet (10 meters). This voluminous nature is especially notable on the main deck. Her main saloon, dining area, and galley follow an open-plan layout. The owners positioned the dining area just inside the aft-deck doors. The galley’s stone-clad prep island runs fore-aft opposite it, too, suiting laid-back living. Back through the aft-deck doors, meanwhile, the alfresco area is a big socializing and dining spot. More dining, or perhaps cocktails, can take place fully forward. A larger-than-you-might-expect lounge tucks against the superstructure, overlooking the twin trampolines.
Although the owners of the yacht Bundalong went with a traditional four-stateroom layout below decks, the McConaghy MC82p yacht series allows customization. Therefore, future customers might prefer a main-deck master suite. Furthermore, they might want fewer total staterooms, making each a larger suite instead. They also might opt for what Bundalong has: solar panels on her flying-bridge hardtop. Alternately, the hardtop has a slide-open center section.
The flying bridge is the place to be while underway. McConaghy Boats says that Bundalong is capable of a 28-knot top speed. Dialed back to 11 knots, her Yanmar engines should allow a long range of 4,000 nautical miles.
