Second Unfinished Trinity 168 Superyacht Hitting the Auction Block

A few months after the successful auction of a Trinity trideck superyacht, Boathouse Auctions now has a sistership going up for sale. The auction for the second unfinished Trinity 168 superyacht opens online next month.

While the auctioned trideck yacht was about 40 percent complete, this 168-footer (51-meter) is only about 20 percent complete. She, like the other project, ceased construction during the financial crisis about a decade ago. The steel hull and aluminum superstructure are sound, inspected last month by a surveyor. Similar to her sistership, she has been in a secure storage yard in Gulfport, Mississippi since construction stopped.

Although engines aren’t in place, the anticipated top speed of 18½ knots is based on twin 2,250-hp Caterpillar 3512B diesels being aboard. The yacht does come with equipment such as new Northern Lights gensets, however, along with full design and engineering support. In fact, Geoff Van Aller, the original naval architect, is available to provide insight into what changes can occur to complement the original engineering.

This second unfinished Trinity 168 superyacht is in such an early stage of construction, the interior design and layout is completely tailorable. Based on popular current configurations for 500-gross-ton yachts, though, a five-stateroom, 10-passenger head count will work well. So, too, will a six-stateroom, 12-passenger layout.

Hargrave Yacht Brokerage, which is working with Boathouse Auctions for the sale, indicates that a few shipyards in the United States and overseas are available to take on completion.

Online bidding begins April 21, starting at $600,000. A reserve is in place. Financing is available as well.
