Having celebrated her christening several weeks ago, the yacht Marsa is making her way from Europe to the Atlantic Ocean. The owners are setting out on the first of what should be several private cruises.
The yacht Marsa is hull number three in the Amels 200 series, seeing construction at the Damen Yachting facility in Vlissingen, The Netherlands. This same series has already seen the deliveries Moonstone and Stella M. To a certain degree, Damen Yachting considers Volpini 2 yet another sistership, even though technically she is an Amels 188. The builder considers her part of the family because the Amels 200 series actually began as the Amels 188. For perspective, Volpini 2’s delivery took place in the summer of 2018, whereas the owners of Marsa signed the contract in May 2021.
With a significant volume of 1,015 gross tons and accommodations for 12 in the owners’ party, the Amels 200 series features styling by Tim Heywood. Owners are free to choose the interior-design studio, though this couple chose the same one as the previous clients, Winch Design. Unfortunately, few details are available about the interior, despite a number of custom touches. For instance, a gym is on the sundeck (fully air conditioned, given generous windows). Additionally, and conveniently, an elevator connects the lower-deck staterooms to the three decks above. Outside, Marsa has a pale-grey hull.
Despite the confidentiality surrounding the yacht Marsa, the team that brought her to fruition can lend some insight into the working relationship. “It was so rewarding to see the owners onboard for the christening and blessing ceremony,” shares Tom Oomkens, a Damen Yachting project manager. “The pride in their eyes made us forget all the hard work and long hours.”
Carlos Miguel Narciso Marques, the relief captain chief officer during construction, has been “deeply involved” the last five months. He considers her “a masterpiece,” adding, “it’s been an incredible journey, and I’m immensely proud to have been a part of it.”
In the meantime, the Amels 200 hull number four was part of an Amels Limited Editions double launch last fall (below). She remains at the shipyard, undergoing final outfitting.
