MegayachtNews.com is pleased to announce it is a co-host of the American Boating Congress (ABC), joining a broad group of other industry leaders. ABC is being held from May 5 to 7 in Washington, D.C.
ABC is a comprehensive legislative conference. It brings together recreational boating-industry leaders to formulate public policy and present a united front on issues that impact marine businesses. This marks the first year that MegayachtNews.com is serving as a co-host, driven by the success of ABC in 2013. MegayachtNews.com is joining the rallying cry to strengthen the industry’s collective advocacy impact.
“While several companies representing the pleasureboat market are co-hosting ABC, MegayachtNews.com is one of just two co-hosts focused strongly on the megayacht market,” says Diane M. Byrne, editor of our website. “The other is the U.S. Superyacht Association, an industry organization that MegayachtNews.com is proud to be a member of and therefore looks forward to collaborating with in regards to ABC.” Byrne points to how policy makers on both state and federal levels have attended b-to-b conferences and sat one on one with shipyards to learn vital the megayacht market is to the United States. These same legislators have learned that yachting is a strong manufacturing-related industry and a strong consumer market. “Some of the world’s best yacht builders, designers, and gear suppliers are in the United States,” Byrne explains. “By co-hosting ABC this coming May, my goal is to strengthen the educational efforts, so that onerous legislation or even lack of action in other respects doesn’t get in the way of positive developments and economic growth.”
ABC will feature diverse speakers, policy specialists, and industry authorities, plus legislative and regulatory officials. ABC co-hosts have committed themselves to growing the industry through public policy advocacy. They come from a wide variety of industry segments, including brokerage and media. These groups have ongoing insight into what issues are of the most pressing interest. This in turn should ensure that ABC highlights timely, relevant policy matters. Co-hosts will contribute to the presentations and Q&As during the event.
MegayachtNews.com plans to further raise awareness among consumers as part of its co-hosting of ABC. This will occur primarily through its strong social media channels. MegayachtNews.com has large followings on Twitter, Facebook, and Google+, plus a monthly newsletter. “In the January edition of our newsletter, I already alerted readers to our co-hosting status, and invited them to contact me and share their thoughts on issues of utmost concern,” Byrne says. “On top of this, while at ABC in May, I’ll be posting live updates and photos on Twitter and our other social media channels.”
