Stateside superyacht owners and guests who thrill to new watertoy experiences will want to get their hands on the CudaJet underwater jetpack. It’s coming to U.S. shores shortly, and it promises to let you essentially fly through the water faster than Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps did in his prime.
UK-made, the CudaJet features a harness much like a traditional personal flotation vest. It further suits various body sizes, coming in small, medium, and large. It slips on easily, too. This therefore makes the underwater jetpack less bulky and awkward than some sea scooters or other subsurface toys can be. You can order extra harnesses in additional sizes as well.
With exclusive U.S. distribution through the Fort Lauderdale-based retailer Aqua Flight, the jetpack can propel you to a top speed of nearly 10 feet per second (3 meters per second). Put another way, that’s approximately 7 mph. For comparison, Phelps’ fastest swimming speed when he set Olympic records was 6 mph. Additionally, the average person can’t swim more than 4 mph while underwater.
Cudajet lets you control thrust by squeezing a handheld trigger. You further change direction just by pivoting your body. When it’s time to get some air, you can still use the jetpack. Scoot around on the water’s surface if you wish. Or, just float thanks to the buoyant harness before diving down for more.
Besides the jetpack, harness, and controller, each order comes with a charger, a charge key, and a cleaning kit. Charge time is 90 minutes. Furthermore, you can order a hard case for stowage.
Ashton Lauritzen, CEO of Aqua Flight, says, “We are super thrilled to be the first and only company to bring this product to life here in Florida.” The rising popularity of extreme watersports means Cudajet is “the start of a new era for the watersports and yachting industry.”
