When it comes to where its projects take shape, Wally’s never been beholden to one particular shipyard. That set some of the groundwork for a new agreement with Nobiskrug, which will see a series of displacement megayachts as well as custom megayachts with steel hulls. The partnership affords Wally customers a way to move up in size and experience. Simultaneously, it affords Nobiskrug exposure to alternative customers.
Nobiskrug’s history dates back to the early 1990s, rooted in shipbuilding. It’s known primarily for motoryachts measuring 197 feet (60 meters) and larger. “Larger” certainly applies to Tatoosh (above). at 303 feet (92 meters). Nobiskrug does have one significant sailing project to its name, too, of course: the sail-assisted Sailing Yacht A. Wally, meanwhile, is renowned for sailing yachts (think Wallycento) and motoryachts (think Wallyace) that break the mold in terms of styling and performance. Since 1994, Wally has delivered nearly 50 sailing yachts and more than 120 motoryachts, from different shipyards. The build approach, it believes, lends itself well to owners getting the construction they want.
Wally thus far has concentrated on the sub-148-foot (sub-45-meter) market. Lucca Bassani, president of the Monaco-based brand, has wanted to expand into bigger territory. “Nobiskrug is known for their strength in the engineering and indisputable manufacturing quality of large superyachts in steel,” he comments. “This partnership will strategically complement our business portfolio.” Holger Kahl, managing director for Nobiskrug, says he saw synergies between the two brands. “We share the vision of providing our superyacht customers with innovative technology combined with best yacht-building quality,” he explains. “This will be the main drive for our cooperation.”
The two have already come up with a project to promote to potential customers. It’s a 272-foot (83-meter) explorer. Unfortunately, full details are not available. However, each party contributed to the creation. Nobiskrug developed the hull platform, while Wally designed the styling and overall concept.
Whether a customer is interested in this particular project or wants to start from a clean sheet of paper, Wally serves as the single point of contact.
