The multi-hull market is growing well into the megayacht realm due to owners prioritizing efficiency. Rossinavi takes the design up a notch. The Oneiric mega cat additionally has solar panels and can cruise in all-electric mode even on transatlantic crossings.
The second catamaran concept from Rossinavi, Oneiric comes in partnership with Zaha Hadid Architects for styling and interior design. Perhaps the most noteworthy part of that styling is what you see—and don’t see. Curves galore, especially aft, dominate the 144-footer’s (44-meter’s) profile, without a single solar panel visible. The shipyard is integrating them into the aluminum structure. This allows the studio’s design, which draws inspiration from ocean waves, to remain the focus.
Interestingly, Rossinavi drew inspiration from nature, too, for the solar panels. Specifically, it notes how phytoplankton convert sunlight into energy. Scientists consider phytoplankton the lungs of the sea, since they produce 50 to 80 percent of the Earth’s oxygen. As for the solar panels, they feed a battery bank, which a control center monitors for charge status. The same control center also monitors overall energy use. In both cases, the system can recommend ways to consume less power.
The battery power is a noteworthy alternative to full diesel power. Rossinavi says Oneiric can across the Atlantic in electric mode for about 70 percent of the trip. While harbor hopping or day cruising, meanwhile, the mega catamaran can run entirely on electric power. Yet another advantage: silent operations, on top of Rossinavi’s practice of isolating sound and vibration at their source (like equipment). Furthermore, the battery bank can feed electricity to the owners’ home if they dock behind it.
Amid the 45-foot (13.75-meter) beam, Zaha Hadid Architects echoes the curving lines of the exterior. Wood paneling calls more attention to some of those curves, while carrying the sense of the outside decks throughout the interior. A party of 10 can enjoy several dining and lounging areas, including a media room. The ample beam makes staterooms quite spacious, with none of course more so than the master. Skylights and a wall of glass forward make it feel airier. A further nice touch: direct access to an alfresco lounge.
Lest you forget Oneiric tries to emphasize sustainability, the designers are selecting recycled and recyclable design materials.
