Here’s your chance to own one of the largest megayachts presently under construction, and what is thus far the largest yacht built in China, specifically at Raffles. She’s the 288’7” (88-meter) Illusion, expected to be ready two years from now.
What makes Illusion stand out from other similar-size megayachts under construction? Her decidedly Asian-themed interior, for one. The images here give you a good sense of what the owner requested of Sinot Yacht Design. Recall that the interior-design firm has worked with a number of prominent builders and owners, including Feadship and Larry Ellison, respectively, on projects like the Feadship F45 series as well as Musashi.
The decor of Illusion is markedly different, of course, which is what you’d expect of a true custom megayacht. From the sculptures standing sentry in what appears to be a receiving area, to the Zen-like qualities of the saloon and master suite, Illusion does not look like any other yacht on the market. When you consider her beam is an extra-wide 51 feet (15.6 meters), and she rises six decks high, it further emphasizes the amount of space an owner’s party of 14 can enjoy.
Other aspects of Illusion make her attractive literally and figuratively. Naval architecture is by Azure Naval Architects, while styling is by RMD Marine (Rainsford Mann Design, formerly Rainsford Saunders Design). Both firms have solid reputations in their respective fields, having collaborated with many of the leading yacht yards. RMD has said that Rolls Royce cars were among its inspiration for the profile.
The Rolls Royce connection is fitting, given Illusion’s propulsion package. It’s a Rolls Royce diesel-electric system, with azimuthing propellers and a Dynamic Positioning system. The megayacht is expected to cruise at 14 knots and top out at 17 knots.
If the interior design outlined for Illusion isn’t entirely to your taste, not to worry. Construction on the yacht only started in 2011, so you still have time to tailor the decor to your tastes. (The project was actually supposed to start earlier than that, but the global economic recession put a hold on things.)
Illusion’s central listing is held by Fraser Yachts’ Monaco office. The brokerage house will have a scale model on display at its stand at the upcoming Hainan Rendezvous, March 30 to April 2, where you can also meet representatives from Raffles.
