Here’s the second Damen Sea Axe 6711, christened simply 6711. Amels, which is owned by Damen and handles sales and marketing for these support vessels, says she exceeded 22 knots on her recent sea trials.
You may recall that the first Sea Axe 6711 was Garçon. The new Sea Axe 6711 named 6711 has the same dimensions: 220 feet (67.15 meters) LOA and a 37’7” (11.5-meter) beam. The 22-knot speed is a few knots higher than that of Garçon, courtesy of quadruple MTU 16V 4000 diesels. Amels also says she has a range of 4,500 nautical miles at 16 knots.
While Garçon and 6711further share a profile and shiny yacht finish, each Sea Axe 6711 can be customized. In terms of 6711, there’s a large dive center onboard. More than 753 square feet (70 square meters), with a decompression chamber, serves that purpose.
Of course, one of the biggest appeals of the Sea Axe 6711 is the open working deck. An impressive 2,960 square feet (275 square meters) of deck space is aboard 6711. That total does not include the helipad, the latter of which allows fueling the helicopter, too. A garage/workshop is further aboard 6711. It’s just shy of 797 square feet (74 square meters). Of course, the Sea Axe 6711 often also appeals because she can carry additional crew to handle all these extra operations. Twenty-one crew are housed aboard 6711, which has a gross tonnage of 1,143.
No specifics have been revealed as to which yacht 6711 will accompany. The owner’s representatives from the yacht-management company Imperial do give Damen high marks, however. “The 6711 has been a very interesting project, a special type of support vessel with a highly customized and very practical layout,” says Evgeniy Kochman, Imperial’s CEO. He adds that “the building process at Damen runs like clockwork.” Indeed, this Sea Axe 6711 is being delivered this month, reportedly ahead of schedule.
Amels says four more support vessels are under construction. It also has been fielding a number of inquiries for similar craft. Rob Luijendijk, Amels’ managing director, says larger Sea Axe Fast Yacht Support vessels up to 295 feet (90 meters) are in development. Currently, the LOAs are 121, 164, and 220 feet (37, 50, and 67 meters).
