UPDATE, APRIL 9, 2024: Octopus is chartering through a new central agent, Big Blue Expeditions. Antarctica remains among the extraordinary locations you can visit. Jacqui Lockhart, previously with Camper & Nicholsons when it held the yacht’s central agency, currently heads Big Blue Expeditions’ charter operations.
When news broke in early 2022 that Octopus was available for charter for the first time, once-in-a-lifetime travelers got excited. It’s no surprise, either. Imagine cruising aboard one of the world’s largest yachts. Also, imagine visiting one of the most remote places on earth. If the million-plus views of this video, released just two weeks ago, are any indication, seeing the superyacht Octopus in Antarctica is a thrill for far more people than them.
Octopus began chartering in Antarctica for the first time this past December. The 414-footer (126-meter) was the largest private yacht delivered in 2003, featuring an ice-class hull. In fact, her hull meets one of the highest categories of ice classification. This allows her to navigate the thicker ice conditions of Antarctica safely.
Enjoy the extraordinary scenery, which is enough to take your breath away. Further enjoy seeing the wonderful wildlife that calls Antarctica home: penguins, seals, whales, and more. (We’ve added even more images in a photo gallery toward the bottom of the page.) Surely, the charter guests aboard the superyacht Octopus in Antarctica saw some from her underwater lounge. The yacht additionally has an enclosed observation deck, perfect for using binoculars.
The stories the charter guests can share are, undoubtedly, incredible. Some, for example, were able to contribute to wildlife-conservation efforts, by assisting scientists. Others (like American Olympic snowboarder Shaun White, who shared his adventures on Instagram) got up close to hundreds of penguins. The practically unexplored continent afforded the opportunity for guests to explore ice floes, too, and even take a polar plunge.
Unfortunately, the window has closed on booking the superyacht Octopus in Antarctica anymore this year. The continent’s “season,” as it were, is November to March. However, the yacht is still chartering this summer, in places like Montenegro, Turkey, and Croatia. Her charter rate starts at €2.2 million per week.
