Some owners list their yachts for sale within a few short years of taking delivery, especially if they’re planning another build. Nick Candy and Holly Valance, the owners of 11.11, resisted over the past five years, despite offers. They’ve changed their minds, however, for a few reasons. It’s an opportunity to acquire one of the most talked-about megayachts on the market.
Benetti built the 207-foot (63-meter) 11.11 for the couple, delivering her in 2015. Candy and his wife made the megayacht available for charter starting the following year. In a statement to Tatler magazine, Candy explains, “I’ve been approached over the last few years to sell it—often by charter guests who, after spending one or two weeks onboard, want to buy it—but I’ve always said no.” The change of heart comes, he continues, because of “increasing demand for superyachts, which are viewed as a safer alternative to shore-based travel.” Second, 11.11 (pronounced “eleven eleven”) is now for sale because “I’m currently nine months down the line with designs for a new and bigger yacht.”
Candy, a property developer, says the enjoyment he derives from planning a yacht is actually pretty similar to building a house or apartment building. Certainly, a lot of enjoyment came planning this 207-footer. Candy and Valance designed the interiors themselves, too. They wanted a home away from home for their family, including their young daughter. (On a related side note, 11.11 is their daughter’s birthday.) As striking as the Art Deco-inspired design is, the yacht simultaneously shows how child-friendly features coexist with fine ones. For example, tables purposely have rounded edges. Additionally, sofas invite climbing up onto when a favorite cartoon is on television.
From backlit onyx in the formal dining table, to stainless steel inlays in the main foyer’s marble soles, 11.11 has stunning details. Notably, Candy himself went to marble quarries in Italy to select the marbles and onyxes used onboard. These materials, along with interactive digital artwork like a framed panel of butterflies by artist Dominic Harris, all sit amid a rich glossy walnut-paneled backdrop.
