Coming in at 400 feet (122 meters) long, including her bowsprit, and 58 feet (about 18 meters) wide, the yacht Kismet, saw delivery today from Lürssen. She is the third to bear this name for the same owner.
Although neither Lürssen nor other involved parties have disclosed the owner’s identity, he’s Shad Khan. The Pakistan-born American entrepreneur is perhaps best known for also owning the Jacksonville Jaguars NFL team. He’s further talked publicly about his previous yachts, including a 312-footer (95-meter) predecessor. That Kismet, from 2014, drew attention for her size but also for what was then the coolest bowsprit ever seen. Specifically, it was a gleaming jaguar, with one paw in the air and the other positioned on a football helmet. The new yacht Kismet has a jaguar bowsprit, too, although in a different interpretation. Instead, it’s a leaping jaguar (below).
Notably, this is the third time that Khan has collaborated with Lürssen. Besides the above-mentioned Kismet, the first Kismet was from 2007. She came in at 223 feet (68 meters). Just as before, “The owner’s brief was challenging,” according to Peter Lürssen, the yard’s CEO. “However, we believe that with our technical expertise, we have fulfilled the owner’s wish and vision for a yacht that will still be timeless and ahead of its time for many years to come.”
Part of the technical expertise is a hybrid propulsion system offering entirely electric operations underway when wanted. Although particulars on that system aren’t available, something else noteworthy is a system akin to dynamic positioning. It permits station-keeping without using physical anchors, especially good in areas with coral reefs or other sensitive environments. Additionally aboard is a waste-heat recovery system for the gensets. This heat warms the pool.
The megayacht’s timeless appeal comes from styling by Nuvolari Lenard. Balancing out her height of six decks, she has an elongated, somewhat sleek profile. Rounded edges at both ends of her upper decks lend time-honored elegance as well.
Based on early renderings, the interior of the yacht Kismet is quite grand. For example, similar to her immediate predecessor, she has a two-level, atrium-like entrance with video walls. A 150-inch TV is the centerpiece of a Nemo cinema lounge—“Nemo” because it further boasts a below-water viewing area. In collaborating with Reymond Langton Design for the interior, Khan further treats guests to an ultra-luxe wellness area.
As much as Khan enjoys cruising and will spend time aboard in the Med, he’s not keeping his new yacht to himself. You can charter Kismet in the Med this summer, via Cecil Wright. Her weekly base rate is €3 million ($3.2 million at press time).
