“Current, real, and futuristic at the same time.” Enrico Lumini, Hot Lab’s head of design, describes the T500 Tethys, which his studio has created with Tankoa Yachts, this way. She’s a 164-foot (50-meter) explorer for visiting high-latitude and traditional high-profile cruising regions.
Vincenzo Poerio, CEO at Tankoa Yachts, agrees with Lumini’s assessment. He says that flexibility is the common theme between current and future customers. In other words, buyers want to see multiple options for the same areas. With a gross volume just under 500 gross tons, the design offers this in a few ways. For instance, the T500 Tethys aft deck can include an infinity pool, or serve as the ultimate open-air toy garage. Even a helicopter or landing craft can stow here. Either way, it embodies the essence of superyacht exploration: adventurous relaxation. Further flexible, the lower-deck guest area can be solely guest staterooms, include extra cabins, or swap a stateroom out for a cinema or office.
Finally, the T500 Tethys can run with diesel-electric, hybrid, or traditional diesel propulsion.
Buyers still get the superyacht-specific leisure areas they crave, of course. The Tankoa T500 Tethys places the master suite forward on the main deck, for example. Sliding glass opens up areas like the saloon. She also puts a hot tub, sunpads, a bar, a barbecue, and more on the sundeck. Thoughtfully, it also includes a day head. It’s a great area for spotting approaching anchorages as well, truly suiting an ocean explorer. Even the model name plays into this concept. Tethys in Greek mythology was the mother of the river gods. Additionally, the Tethys Ocean was a real ocean during the Mesozoic and Cenozoic Eras.
Perhaps that explains why Tankoa has nicknamed the new megayacht model an “SUV of the seas.” Regardless, Poerio says, “This model was missing from our range, and we wanted to fill this gap.”
