One of the most successful series in Perini Navi’s history is its 56-meter series, seeing several 184-footers launch with varying sailplans. The series has new life with the shipyard’s new owners and two design studios collaborating with the shipyard for the first time. On pace for delivery in summertime next year, the first Perini Navi 56m ketch is currently undergoing outfitting.
This ketch, with design by Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design, also goes by her hull number, Perini Navi C. 603. The Italian Sea Group, which acquired Perini Navi a few years ago, wanted to revive its storied history of creating performance sailing superyachts. Simultaneously, it wanted to push the brand in groundbreaking directions. Giovanni Costantino, founder and CEO of The Italian Sea Group, notes, “After the success of the Perini Navi ArtExplorer catamaran, the emotion towards our sailing yachts is even stronger.”
Although her owner’s team and the other involved parties are keeping a tight lid on details, some information is available. For example, McKeon (below) is handling both styling and naval architecture. He hints at some of the stylistic features you can expect to see. “Whilst retaining some of the most recognizable Perini design features, our collaboration will see the exterior design evolved and elevated,” he explains. “Together, we’re sculpting a vessel that harmonizes luxury, performance, and innovation.” As for that innovation, the shipyard is developing a digital steering system. Notably, it will still make the captain feel that he or she has quite tactile control over the Perini Navi 56m ketch. It’s been “an exciting journey,” McKeon declares, “blending our passion for timeless elegance with Perini Navi’s renowned craftsmanship.”
When Perini Navi announced the project in 2022, it hadn’t revealed an interior-design studio. However, Winch Design is working with the owner and his team. The studio describes the overall atmosphere throughout the rooms as being timeless, with abundant classic details. Of course, the feeling will still be quite comfortable, and practical, too. Additionally, Winch Design is drawing a lot of inspiration from “the constant fluidity of the ocean,” the studio says. Expect to see, for example, organic shapes throughout the decks. Also expect to see sandy-toned leathers and stones, along with warm woods. Winch Design is also creating custom on-deck furniture, complementing the interior look and feel.
