Coinciding with its 140th anniversary, Royal Huisman is constructing a record-setting performance sloop. The code-named yacht Noir is set to have the tallest sloop rig the world has yet to see. In fact, it will beat the current record holder by several feet.
At nearly 266 feet (81 meters), the yacht Noir will have a formidable presence in her own right. Length-wise, she’ll rank among the top 10 largest sailing superyachts on the water. Her mast, though, is just as noteworthy. Featuring the design and engineering work of Malcolm McKeon Yacht Design, it’s set to be 305 feet (93 meters). For comparison, M5 (the ex-Mirabella V) presently has the tallest rig among single-masted sailing yachts, standing 290 feet (88.5 meters) high. The rig construction for Noir, a.k.a. Royal Huisman Project 411, will take place at the yard’s sister company, Rondal.
Unfortunately, other than these measurements, few details are permitted for publicity at this point. Royal Huisman does say that the owner is an experienced, passionate sailor who enjoys sharing the lifestyle with close friends and family. Overall, speed, power, and responsive handling are all priorities for the owner. World cruising is in the plans, too. To explore some of the intended destinations, the sailing superyacht will tote a sizable tender, 46 feet (14 meters). The same tender will transfer provisions from shore out to the yacht while she’s at anchor.
Looks-wise, McKeon’s studio has penned a reverse bow for making the most of her waterline length. The design studio additionally penned a flying bridge, since alfresco enjoyment while sailing is important. Big expanses of glass as well as fold-down platforms should enhance the sense of feeling connected to anchorages and the overall scenery. Throughout the interior, natural materials will set a laid-back yet luxurious ambience. (On a related side note, the design studio, GCA Architects, designed Spain’s first “smart” building, plus one of the world’s first platinum-certified LEED structures.) Finally, and fittingly for her project name, the yacht Noir will have black windows and black deck gear.
