Echo Yachts has landed its first sailing-superyacht contract. And it’s no ordinary project. The Echo/Dykstra 57M sailing catamaran should be the world’s largest true sailing cat at launch.
Bearing twin masts, the 187-footer (57-meter) is for an experienced sailor. The Echo/Dykstra 57M sailing catamaran will cruise long range under sail, too. According to Echo Yachts, she’ll bear 27,868 square feet (1,660 square meters) of sails. In combination with lightweight aluminum construction and the catamaran hull, she should be pretty efficient.
Engineering is coming from two well-experienced design studios. Firstly, Dykstra Naval Architects is providing naval architecture, as well as styling. Secondly, One2Three Naval Architects is contributing naval architecture, too, along with structural design. Dykstra has a long record of designing large sailing superyachts, including the groundbreaking Black Pearl. One2Three Naval Architects, meanwhile, is responsible for multi-hull megayachts like the trimaran White Rabbit and the support yacht Charley 2, the largest Australian-built catamaran. Both of those yachts were Echo Yachts projects, too.
So far, only the sketch above is available to reveal the design. No information is available on accommodations. Neither are details public yet on what Mark Stothard, Echo Yachts’ owner and director, says are “emission-reducing technologies.” However, he does say, “This new superyacht will truly elevate the term ‘green superyacht design’” thanks to those technologies, her hull form, and her sailing capabilities.
The build and design teams pledge to release more information as the project progresses.
