The team behind Infiniti Yachts believes foil-driven sailing yachts are the future. More so, it believes its patented, proven foiling system makes sailing more enjoyable and easier for owners. So, in seeking a shipyard for its high-performance Infiniti 105 yacht cruiser-racer, it tapped an equally boundary-pushing builder, McConaghy Boats.
The Australia-based shipyard has earned renown for projects like the trimaran Adastra and perennial race winners and record breakers Wild Oats XI and Leopard. Infiniti Yachts, meanwhile, prioritizes lightweight, fast, and efficient sailing superyachts employing the Dynamic Stability System (DSS). Briefly, it’s a retractable foil, creating lift and benefitting other aspects of performance, too. The stronger the wind, the faster the yacht can go, for instance. This in turn means the more the foil can create lift and stability. Additionally, less hydrodynamic drag and less pitching result. In case winds are light, it’s not a problem, since the foil retracts at the push of a button.
DSS has already proved itself on small sailing yachts and gained a higher profile aboard the Baltic yacht Canova. Not coincidentally, Infiniti Yachts says the 105-foot (32-meter) Infiniti 105 yacht is a condensed version of Canova.
Available with a traditional plumb bow (above) or reverse bow (top), the Infiniti 105 yacht further offers two interior arrangements. As a high-performance cruiser, for example, she puts the main saloon and dining area directly beneath the glass superstructure. It’s a combination saloon-dining area, too, not a typical saloon with a hallway cutting down on social space. You can situate the galley aft, facing outboard and therefore maximizing the open-plan saloon and dining area. Or, place the galley forward of the saloon.
Regardless, your master suite is forward below decks, with abundant stowage for long journeys. For your guests, meanwhile, the port-side stateroom can be either a VIP or a twin. The twins can push together as well to form a queen. Across the foyer, the second guest stateroom has space for a single berth with a Pullman.
Of course, sailing is all about feeling the sea breeze, so the guest cockpit is yours to design with the team. Fully forward of the mast, it can feature a bimini that extends from either side of the boom. A sprayhood dodget can deploy from the coachroof as well. All of this assumes you’d rather go cruising than racing. Of course, Infiniti Yachts and McConaghy Boats have a dedicated racing cockpit design for you to tailor, too.
For owners who like to handle operations at times, and for the crew’s convenience, most of the sail controls are push-button simple.
Hull number one, not yet under contract, can be ready as early as 2025. The first five hulls are available through the central agency of Northrop & Johnson.
