In four short years of existence, Arksen has not only launched its first explorer yachts, but also an entire explorer ethos extending to apparel and land vehicles. With the Arksen Discovery Series, it’s branching out into RIBs. Naturally, the five models, from about 20 to 39 feet (6 to 12 meters), are for adventurous souls seeking something out of the ordinary.
Created to push the boundaries of exploration, Arksen considers itself more of an adventure company and not really a yacht builder. Regardless, with the Discovery Series, “our aim is to inspire and empower a new generation of adventurers to explore the world’s most remote and captivating locations,” explains Nick Bailey, the Arksen Discovery Series sales manager. “We set out to combine performance, advanced technology, and features typically found in larger boats.”
Manufacturing is taking place in the UK. The seating arrangements throughout the various models are family-minded, since Arksen anticipates multiple generations wishing to explore together. “My own family has often stood as the inspiration behind Arksen,” notes Jasper Smith, its founder. Especially important has been “sharing in new experiences and opening their eyes and minds to the wonders and fragility of the world around us.” Smith believes many clients share this attitude.
The first model in the Arksen Discovery Series is the Arksen 8, arriving early next year. The 26-foot (98-meter) RIB comes in two configurations, the Arksen 8 Leisure and Arksen 8 Explorer. Each has the same deep-V hull design to handle swells and chop, plus a 9’5” (2.9-meter) beam. Each can come with single or twin outboards up to 500 hp, too, fed by the 119-gallon (415-liter) fuel tank. But, the purposes are slightly different. The Arksen 8 Leisure (above) is a bit more comfort- and social-oriented, with little luxuries. The Arksen 8 Explorer (below), meanwhile, is for ambitious cruisers, owners of true explorer yachts and superyachts. Furthermore, it’s a limited production because each is custom built.
Regardless of choice, Arksen Discovery Series customers benefit from standard and optional features. A handy head and space to change clothes sits within the console, for instance. A fiberglass hardtop, in black, is optional. Additionally, the hardtop can have a manually opening canvas center. Furthermore, clients can request a roof rack, to hold gear or lightweight watertoys.
Arksen is currently creating a dealer network in England, Europe, and the United States to sell the Discovery Series.
