Although it’s not common, some owners like to give their tenders their own names. The owner of an intrepid explorer for visiting all sorts of latitudes has a pretty suitable name in mind for his tender when she’s finished. In fact, the Iceman yacht tender will be just as rugged as her mothership.
Iceman will accompany the Cantiere delle Marche yacht Maverick on her multi-year journeys around the world. Maverick has a 22-mm-thick steel ice belt for cruising through some of the coldest climes on earth. Whether in those waters or warmer tropical ones, the 31-foot (9.55-meter) tender will be more like a support craft than a traditional toy. Firstly, with design by Valerio Rivellini, the boat has an aluminum hull, matched with a carbon fiber superstructure. The goal is to keep her lightweight while simultaneously incorporating structural strength, especially for icy conditions. Secondly, the Iceman yacht tender will carry a tender as well as more toys herself, specifically a 14-foot (4.35-meter) RIB, two SeaBobs, two canoes, four Aerofoils foiling surfboards, plus fishing and diving gear.
Of course, Iceman will carry guests on occasion, too. She’ll have seating for 10 people, perfect for harbor hopping, diving, or simply scouting out the shoreline. With a draft of just 1’6” (50 centimeters), she’ll be able to get everyone super-close to shore, too. Power will come from a single 370-hp Yanmar engine. After a day’s adventure, and upon returning to Maverick, Iceman doesn’t need to go back on the mothership’s aft deck. In fact, the crew will be able to tie her up to the swim platform and even tow her if they need to get underway to a new destination.
One of the biggest benefits of this tender is space savings. Her beam of 9’8” (3 meters) and carrying capacity mean taking up less deck space aboard Maverick than side-by-side tenders.
