Superyacht interior designers and owners likely recognize the name Prebit. It has been making and supplying lighting for yachts for years. The portable Thoa lamp is its latest design, combining artistry with practical illumination.
Much like a lantern, the Thoa lamp can sit wherever you most need it, without requiring an electrical outlet nearby. In fact, it’s an LED lamp that charges by induction—similar to how newer iPhones charge without plugs, instead sitting atop a charger. Better yet, the lamp provides lighting for hours, a good solution for using out on deck, for instance. Prebit has incorporated clever dimming technology, too. This allows not only the light intensity to change as you adjust it, but also the color temperature to change. In other words, the more you dim the lamp, the warmer the light becomes, ultimately mimicking candlelight.
Prebit makes all of its lighting solutions in Germany, and recently received a prestigious industry design award nomination for this lamp.
Learn more about Prebit’s Thoa lamp in the November edition of the Megayacht News newsletter. Sent on a subscriber-only basis (more than 1,500 subscribers presently), it contains information that we don’t feature here on the daily-updated website. So, for example, we tell you about a fundraising raffle being held by YachtAid Global. It’s your chance to win some cool watertoys, like a SeaBob, while supporting a good cause. We additionally tell you about Oceanco introducing a new construction approach that’s as close to semi-custom as it likely will ever come, saving yacht buyers time. Finally, our editor poses a question: Are there things that superyacht owners and their advisors wish that shipyards and the industry knew? If owners and their teams could create a list of do and don’t best practices, what would be on it?
