Most megayachts don’t top out at speeds approaching 30 knots. Most also don’t have ways to make both the transom and aft deck versatile leisure areas. The Sunseeker 88 Yacht, however, succeeds on both fronts.
The 86’7” (26.38-meter) project, which just made her American debut at the Fort Lauderdale boat show last month, is the newest member of Sunseeker’s Yacht series. All four series models (the others are the 76, 95, and 100 Yacht) feature flying bridges, sporty lines, and spirited performance. The Sunseeker 88 Yacht offers two engine choices, both from MTU. The standard package, providing 2,000 hp, pledges a full-throttle speed of 28 knots. Other aspects of performance don’t suffer, though. In fact, you can anticipate a range of 1,275 nautical miles when the engines dial back to 12 knots. That’s certainly more than enough to venture up and down the East Coast chasing the seasons, for instance.
Of course, the Sunseeker 88 Yacht intends to provide superyacht-style experiences due to her dimensions. This is where the shipyard’s own X-TEND sunbed plays a part. Typically, yachts this size have a tender garage doubling as a beach club or a small dedicated beach club off a shallow swim platform. They further nearly exclusively have a U-shape dining area on the aft deck, facing forward. Sunseeker makes the two areas more social, and more socially connected. The X-TEND sunbed can sit at the aft-deck level, joining settees facing port and starboard. Or, it can remain flush against the transom, with the bottom flipped out as a seat/sunbed (immediately above). Either way, glass bulkheads adjoining the guest seating on the aft deck eliminate the feeling of barriers. Additionally, the swim platform is deep enough to carry a Williams 435 SportJet tender or PWC, and SeaBobs stow in dedicated lockers (directly above).
With accommodations for eight guests along with four crewmembers, the Sunseeker 88 Yacht offers buyers the ability to tailor the interior decor to their liking. All staterooms, including the master, sit below decks, with the master making the most of the 21-foot (6.47-meter) beam amidships. For convenience serving the interior dining area and alfresco dining and cocktail spots, the galley sits on the main deck.
Andrea Frabetti, Sunseeker’s CEO, sums up the 88 Yacht this way. “This yacht really does have a luxury superyacht feel with the practicalities of a smaller model.”
