Extra Yachts prioritizes extra alfresco space for enjoying life at sea as well as healthy internal volumes. With the X96 Triplex, the brand pushes usable space even farther. It adds a deck level, plus re-imagines traditional general arrangements. The result is a project proving you need not own a triple-digit-LOA megayacht to enjoy cruising with large families or groups of friends.
Hull number one, which launched in July, made her global premiere at the Cannes Yachting Festival in September. There, and at the Monaco Yacht Show shortly thereafter, she certainly rivaled some of the larger megayachts among the docks. Consider, for instance, that she has a nearly 25-foot (7.3-meter) beam within a 93’8” (28.6-meter) length. This makes her main-deck master suite (above) much larger than that of any within her size category—if those other yachts even have main-deck owners’ suites. Some still place it below decks. The owner of the first X96 Triplex did something else to make the suite feel bigger, situating the en suite bath down two steps forward, and without a door.
Still on the subject of staterooms, the Extra X96 Triplex has accommodations for eight guests below decks. Hull number one—and likely all subsequent hulls, including one just sold for delivery in 2022—has two VIPs and two twins. Moving the master suite up a deck, plus using Volvo Penta IPS propulsion, frees up more floorspace for more comfort. (That Volvo Penta system, by the way, features three engines of 1,000 hp each, for a 17½-knot top speed and 12-knot cruise.)
Interestingly, the owners of the first X96 Triplex did something else to amplify the sense of space and entertaining onboard. The galley sits on the upper deck, with a pass-through to the dining area (above), flanked by sliding glass doors. The owners can use the galley with their family on laid-back trips, or have it serve as a show kitchen when welcoming other guests. For guests’ and crew privacy, a shade pulls down to close it off from the dining area. A glass partition rises up from the counter level, too.
Given the desire to maximize alfresco areas, exterior stylist Francesco Guida fashioned another dining and entertaining area for the owners. A section of glass to port of the opening glass doors aft on this same deck slides down, turning an outdoor countertop into an indoor-outdoor bar with barstools. The owners wanted this, along with a seating area all the way aft and a sunshade. The bar is the perfect place for breakfast or snacks, with the deck being the all-day hang-out location. The family can head up one more deck to the sundeck for the same experiences, though with a cozier feel. It further has two induction cooking plates, a refrigerator, and an icemaker.
Extra space and extra flexibility are the watchwords for the entire Extra Yachts lineup. As part of it, the X96 Triplex is extra creative as well. Take an armchair tour through the gallery above, where you’ll see Hot Lab’s handiwork throughout the interior.
