Despite the popularity of limo tenders, RIBs have never gone out of style as megayacht tenders. Zar Formenti, an Italian manufacturer, is banking on Americans being attracted to the convenience and performance of its models. In particular, it has just premiered its newest and largest RIB, the Zar Formenti 95 SL, at this week’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
The 31-footer (9.5-meter) distinguishes itself from other RIBs in a few ways. First, you can request a variety of colors for the gelcoat, the tubing, and the decking. Second, Zar Formenti likens it more to a traditional powerboat because the transom extends farther aft compared to most RIBs. The hull extends farther, too, so you have more surface in the water for a smoother ride. In addition, tunnels to both sides of the hull funnel water aft, therefore keeping passengers drier. All of this, the company says, makes the boat ideal for zipping from mothership to shore, island hopping, or even fishing. You can even spend the day aboard, thanks to a small cabin with head and galley, plus an an anchor and windlass.
The Zar Formenti 95 SL employs Orca rubber tubing, which should stand up to UV exposure, high temperatures, and abrasions. Just like the other models from the manufacturer, the overall design came following 3D modeling and virtual prototype testing.
If you head to the boat show, you’ll see the RIB showing off leather bow seating for eight, a table that converts to a sunpad, and seating for eight more people plus a convertible table aft. Teak, meanwhile, covers the deck. A refrigerator and two-burner grill stand ready to serve guests on long or short trips. Note, too, the swim platform extensions, which come with underwater lights and freshwater rinse down.
Better yet, note the speeds the manufacturer boasts. The Zar Formenti 95 SL should see a top end of 60 knots and cruising speed of 42 knots with twin 700-hp Suzuki outboards. Ergonomic racing-style seats keep your crew comfortable at the wheel, where a Raymarine glass cockpit display is at their reach.
