Since opening its doors in recent years, Amsterdam Yacht Service has been handling a number of maintenance projects and refits for yacht and superyacht owners. This summer’s workload is seeing two superyachts—one power and one sail—wrap up service there.
Covering more than 129,000 square feet (12,000 square meters), the facility is in the city of Zandaam, near Amsterdam. It dates to 1921, operating back then as a commercial shipyard. Currently, the facilities include a construction hall, a metalworks shed, a longitudinal slipway, and a few floating docks. The docks can accommodate megayachts to 230 feet (70 meters), while the hall suits projects to 164 feet (50 meters). Interestingly, the shipyard staff does do some new construction on site, though primarily commercial projects. For example, it built an electric tugboat for a fellow Dutch company.
Further with the biggest-capacity lifting slings in The Netherlands, at 480 tons, Amsterdam Yacht Service is finishing refits for two particular owners. Firstly, the owner of the 184-foot (56-meter) Panthalassea (above) had her taken there for what the yard says is extensive work. Although specifics aren’t available, photos of the Perini Navi sailing superyacht on site show some bottom work and her on the hard without her mast. She should be back cruising soon.
Yet another extensive refit began in November 2022. The owner of the 85-foot (26-meter) Moonen Trooper had her taken there after acquiring her. With her original delivery in 2003, Trooper (at top and above, previously Commercial Break) underwent a full repaint, from her bottom on up. Amsterdam Yacht Service additionally removed and checked all of the yacht’s doors, hatches, railings, and other deck components. The shipyard repaired damaged portions of Trooper’s teak decking, cleaned her props, and replaced her water seal. Finally, it installed new nav and communications equipment following revitalizing her mast.
Like Panthalassa, Trooper should be departing the yard soon. In the meantime, some smaller refits are ongoing.
