At 112 feet (34 meters), Lady Lene is proof that so-called small superyachts still come from custom yacht yards. Additionally, this yacht, just launched at Van der Valk Shipyard, is proof that a fully wheelchair accessible project is possible.
The owners of Lady Lene wanted to leverage explorer looks enveloping decks prioritizing ease of movement. So, for example, an elevator connects all decks. More than just that, though, all the floors are flush, with no further issues like sharp corners or hard angles. The customers are additionally repeat clients of the Dutch shipyard, so they felt confident the team could handle these must-haves. In fact, Guido de Groot, who’s responsible for styling, says that only when every must was ticked could the rest of the design proceed.
Interestingly, he also says that he first started sketching Lady Lene about two years ago at Christmastime. “That is a really short period of time to build and deliver such a large and complex boat,” he explains.
Featuring high headroom throughout, the megayacht is also all about family time. For instance, Lady Lene has a more open and larger aft deck than you typically see aboard yachts of her size. Actually, the area is more open and larger for most yachts, regardless of size. This allows for multiple generations of the owners’ family to dine together, chat together, and generally spend time together. The area, additionally with a bar, overlooks a healthy swim platform, perfect for boarding watertoys or leaping into the water. The yacht also has two master staterooms, one on the bridge deck and one below decks. These complement two VIPs and a bunk-berth cabin for kids below decks.
While the finishing touches continue on the interior, designer Carla Guilhem hints at what’s in store. “My three words to describe the interiors of Lady Lene would be calm, welcoming, and livable,” she says.
Sea trials, starting soon, should confirm a top speed of 18 knots. The megayacht should see a cruising speed of 14 knots, too, with her twin 1,650-hp MAN engines.
