Approaching its 50th anniversary, the family-run Van der Valk Continental Yachts is bigger than ever. Literally. It’s completing a larger construction shed dedicated to motoryachts upwards of 131 feet (40 meters).
Furthermore, come completion in springtime, the new hall will handle megayachts rising three decks high. The Dutch builder hasn’t been able to offer tridecks among its megayachts, or even mid-size megayachts, due to the restrictions of its existing facilities.
Toward the end of this month, customers can get their first looks at the nearly finished shed. Van der Valk is hosting its annual Experience Event from March 23 to 26. By then, the roof and walls will be in place. Akin to open house days, the Experience Event lets buyers see the overall yacht-build process. Van der Valk has a variety of disciplines, including woodwork, in house. Customers can also step aboard a variety of motoryacht models.
Van der Valk has several motoryachts in the works, in fact. Seven yachts will hit the water. A few are megayachts, too. There’s an 89-foot (27-meter) flying-bridge project, for example. Two 85-foot (26-meter) raised-pilothouse designs are under construction. Yet another client has an 82-foot (25-meter) explorer in build. Smaller projects include a 63-foot (19.05-meter) version of the new BeachClub 600. That project, constructed of aluminum like the larger craft, places a real beach club aboard a size not known for having this type of room. The project also boasts far more usable alfresco space forward.
Furthermore, Van der Valk plans to work in a few refits. Some may take place in the new construction shed.
