There’s nothing quite like celebrating the arrival of 2024 aboard a yacht. Between having a front-row seat to fireworks over the water and engaging in yacht spotting around your anchorage, there’s plenty to enjoy. Typically, islands like St. Barths and Antigua attract the most yachts. While they’re still perennially popular, further Caribbean locations are superyacht hot spots for New Year’s Eve. These are just some of the tropical locales that owners and charter guests have chosen to say goodbye to 2023 and hello to 2024.
ANGUILLA
Although Anguilla may come to mind as a superyacht hot spot for New Year’s Eve, it is this year. Several well-known luxury yachts are in its waters, including Archimedes, Ahpo (above), Heeus, Lucky Lady, Namaste, and Baton Rouge. Interestingly, a few of these same yachts had been in St. Maarten just days ago. That island is a megayacht mecca especially for the holidays, but also throughout the winter season.
ANTIGUA
Speaking of megayacht meccas, Antigua has been the go-to destination for decades. Several notable yachts are at the docks and at anchor. In fact, the list reads like a who’s who of yachting: Adela, Alchemy, Arrow (top of page), Hyperion, Inukshuk, Queen Miri, SuRi (above)… the list goes on. Arguably, the yacht getting the most attention in recent days is Koru, the sailing superyacht owned by Jeff Bezos of Amazon.com fame. What some of the island’s visitors may not know, though, is that Bezos has yet another yacht nearby, Abeona. He commissioned Abeona as a support yacht (a motoryacht) for Koru.
THE BAHAMAS
Seven Seas (above, belonging to renowned filmmaker Steven Spielberg) and Man of Steel (coincidentally, formerly belonging to Spielberg) are among the largest yachts anchored here currently. Yet another notable visitor at anchor is Zoom Zoom Zoom, which gets our vote for the cleverest name. The largest gathering of megayachts in The Bahamas, however, is at the docks in Nassau, including Sapphire, Starship, and the explorer yacht Latitude.
ST. BARTHS
Unquestionably a top choice among superyacht hot spots for New Year’s Eve, St. Barths is providing yacht watchers plenty to track. Faith, Moonrise, Pink Shadow, and Savannah are some of the most well-known at anchor. Additionally in St. Barths: Rising Sun (belonging to music and film mogul David Geffen), Carinthia VI, Mogambo, Kensho (pictured), and Rock.It (belonging to Jimmy John’s founder Jimmy Liautaud). SINT MAARTEN
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was busy in Dallas watching his football team play last evening while his yacht Bravo Eugenia was on the move. The yacht was expected to arrive here today. Already in Sint Maarten (the Dutch side of St. Martin) for a few days, however, are lots and lots of yachts. They include Axioma, Elysian (belonging to Boston Red Sox team owner John Henry), Joy (above), Juice, Lionheart, E IV, Samurai, and Sea Owl.
