UPDATE, NOVEMBER 3, 2021: Indonesia now requires just a three-day quarantine period for foreign visitors. “In fact, all nationalities are allowed in if via Jakarta and then quarantine in a hotel in that city,” notes Thomas Taatjes, Asia Pacific Superyachts Indonesia manager. As you might expect, as Indonesia is reopening again, policies will continue changing.

With COVID restrictions continuing to relax worldwide, there’s good news from Southeast Asia. Indonesia is reopening to foreign-flagged yachts once again, plus reducing the mandatory quarantine period.
As with a number of nations, Indonesia has alternately partially relaxed some entry requirements and shut down all together. In February, for example, the country partially reopened, though with stringent limits. Visas were e-visas, issued in advance to limited nationalities, and with permission limited to 14 days. Furthermore, all visitors needed to provide proof of negative PCR tests on arrival, then further quarantine in designated hotels for just over a week, with additional PCR tests at the end of quarantine. By April, visas were available to all nationalities, though mainly for business travel. Plus, port quarantine restrictions varied widely from location to location. And, yacht crew needed to quarantine for five nights onboard if arriving by sea, and five nights in a hotel if joining a yacht already there. However, the Delta variant convinced the government to shut the border within a few months.
The latest government mandates are less restrictive, according to Thomas Taatjes, a yacht agent with Asia Pacific Superyachts. “Now, foreign visitors can quarantine in a hotel for five days,” he says. Better yet, he explains, Indonesia is reopening to foreign nationals arriving in Jakarta, Bali, and Manado via air. For sea arrivals, all of Indonesia’s international ports are open, Taatjes adds.
Visa applications are now more widely obtainable, too. Though, some restrictions still exist, primarily the requirement of full vaccination. You must show proof through a physical or digital vaccination card. Children less than 12 years old, accompanied by parents, are exempt. If you have a medical condition preventing vaccination, you need a doctor’s note or related supporting documentation.
Upon arrival, and after the above-mentioned quarantine, international visitors can once again head to Bali (pictured), Jakarta, and other popular destinations. Indonesia has more than 17,500 islands.
Taatjes can share more details as Indonesia is reopening. “We’ve also been successful in making special arrangements for a speedy entry for our clients once a visit to Indonesia is determined,” he adds.
