Savannah, Georgia already attracts megayacht owners and crew seeking service and refit, along with rich cultural experiences. Come springtime of 2025, IGY Savannah Harbor Marina, a new development, will have 100 berths for yachts of all sizes, including deep-draft superyachts.
The marina will be along the Savannah River on Hutchinson Island. Conveniently, it will be adjacent to the Savannah Convention Center and Westin Hotel. The location is five miles from the Intracoastal Waterway, without bridges restricting air draft. Neither do depth restrictions hamper access. Savannah International Airport and FBOs are about a 25-minute drive. Additionally, Hutchinson Island is a short ferry ride (or tender ride) from the Savannah Historic District. Similarly, sights like the Waving Girl statue (below) and the Fountain at Forsyth Park (bottom), both among the most-photographed in Savannah, are accessible once across the river.
Besides the above-mentioned berths, 1,000 linear feet (305 linear meters) will suit superyachts. An inner basin, meanwhile, will feature slips for smaller boats. Of course, fuel, shore power, concierge services, and parking will be available to all visiting yachts.
IGY Savannah Harbor Marina further will be part of a larger Savannah Harbor mixed-use development. Already, apartments are complete, as are shops, restaurants, and a park. The Club at Savannah Harbor golf course and spa are accessible, too. Among the near-future development plans are a waterfront restaurant.
“We are excited to be involved in this wonderful project and a catalyst of nautical tourism in this thriving area,” says Steve English, IGY Marinas’ president. Similarly, John Cay, principal of Savannah Harbor Partners, the developer of Savannah Harbor, adds, “The marina will be a focal point of the development and enhance the service offerings of this incomparable area.”
Overall, the residences, retail shops, marina, and other amenities are the culmination of a longtime vision. Cay, a local businessman, first proposed extending the city’s infrastructure to Hutchinson Island about a decade ago. Previously, visitors had few reasons to travel to that side of the river. Interestingly, and simultaneously, the Port of Savannah was pursuing a dredging project.
IGY Savannah Harbor Marina will be IGY Marinas’ 23rd property.
