Multiple members of the ocean business community belong to the World Ocean Council (WOC), an alliance committed to what it calls corporate ocean responsibility. As part of its efforts, the WOC produces the Ocean Titans docu-series, updating it yearly to spotlight organizations doing the right thing. This year, it’s included the Water Revolution Foundation as one of its Ocean Titans.
For the past five years, the Water Revolution Foundation has focused on driving sustainability in the superyacht industry. Its multi-pronged approach strives to help yachting change its environmental-impact image, and simultaneously re-invests in ocean conservation. The foundation does all of this with a science-led approach.
With the cooperation of the news service Reuters, WOC’s Ocean Titans docu-series about the Water Revolution Foundation just released this summer. Poignantly, the film release occurred just after the 2023 IMO Greenhouse Gas Strategy received unanimous adoption. The strategy aims to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The Foundation has identified parallels to that strategy in yachting, namely a united, regenerative approach.
The documentary episode here reveals the collaborative effort within the yachting industry to achieve zero emissions by 2030 (earlier than the IMO directive). It further outlines the challenges that the industry faces, and the efforts to take the right steps forward. It’s just 10 minutes long, well worth your time.
