A European-based marine consultancy is establishing a presence in the United States due to this market having the most active owners and buyers. Hamilton Marine International is the consultancy, and it’s doing so by hiring David Ross (above) as its U.S. division CEO.
Ross has had a long career in the superyacht sector. Specifically, he was the president and CEO of Burger Boat Company from 1993 to 2008. From 2016 to 2019, he was the CEO of Yachtzoo. For the past three years, he’s been the vice president of the superyacht division for Reel Deal Yachts.
Hamilton Marine International got its start in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, where it continues to have its base, too. The company founder, Jonathan H. Syrett, has deep roots in the city. In his teens, for instance, he sold second-hand speedboats and windsurfers there. He went on to teach windsurfing in his college years. Syrett’s superyacht break came courtesy of Camper & Nicholsons, which hired him as a broker in 1985. He went on to head of its Spanish operations, leading that team for 20 years. Furthermore, Syrett helped establish a superyacht trade association in the Balearics and has supervised the restoration of yachts.
“Given the current market conditions, the timing couldn’t be better for David Ross to join Hamilton Marine International as CEO of our newly formed U.S. Division based in Fort Lauderdale,” Syrett says. “The change of pace in the yachting industry is exponential, and our CEO needs to thrive in a highly dynamic environment, to accelerate what is working well and disrupt what needs to change. David is that person.”
“The opportunity that lies ahead for the U.S. Division is nothing short of enormous,” Ross says. “Being part of this next chapter is both deeply humbling and incredibly exhilarating.”
