When life aboard for owners and guests is relaxing, that’s proof the crew is working hard behind the scenes. Their goal is to ensure everything seems, and is, smooth. This excellence in professionalism, as well as outstanding achievements, are what inspired ACREW to create The Crew Awards in 2018. Now for the sixth year, The Crew Awards nominations are open for your input.
Set for October 20 to 22 at Porto Montenegro, the ceremony brings together hundreds of captains, crew, and industry representatives. In fact, the organizers from ACREW anticipate having 500 people attend this year. The nominees and award winners time after time share their pride in receiving recognition for being among the best across all positions, and across the global fleet. While a few brokerage, charter, and yacht-management companies hand out crew awards, the nominees are exclusively from their own fleets. The Crew Awards therefore allow anyone who works for you to be up for an award.
Specifically, The Crew Awards nominations cover 14 categories. Some are position-specific, such as The Best Engineer & ETO Crew Award. Others, meanwhile, are for group efforts or individual achievements regardless of role. For example, The Best Superyacht Crew goes to a team that displays a true team ethic, practices excellent communication, and has diverse skills (say, dive instruction and yoga). Overall, the team needs to show understanding of the unique interests and needs of owners and guests from trip to trip, providing personal touches while simultaneously maintaining a safe and secure environment. As for individual achievements, the Environmental and Sustainability Crew Award recognizes a professional or full yacht focused on making a positive impact. Serving as an inspiration to colleagues, being innovative in addressing environmental issues, and being future-focused and a problem solver are just some of the judging criteria.
Speaking of judging, the awards are taking a different approach this year. In years past, open voting has taken place. Now, however, a panel of 19 current and former senior crew and captains will review nominees. The goal is to ensure a more impartial process.
The deadline for submissions is May 1. Full details are on the ACREW website.
