A company with roots in private aviation is making inroads into yachting. CrewBlast sends staffing needs instantly to its database of crew looking for new opportunities, thereby reducing downtime for you.
The company got its start in 2021, filling what it identified as a significant need. Due to COVID and employee shortages, private plane owners couldn’t fly the way they previously had. CrewBlast therefore launched as an app-based way to connect qualified pilots and crews swiftly with operators in need. It also added ground crew to its database, to help FBOs.
In reviewing how crew placement occurs in yachting, the company believed it could bring a better solution to the table, too. “We saw incredibly fast adoption in the aviation industry, and we continue to receive stellar feedback from both crewmembers and aircraft operators,” explains Timothy Griffin, CrewBlast’s president. “Yacht staffing is a logical next step for us.”
While crew agencies naturally have databases of captains, engineers, stews, and more, they’re still largely “old-school” in their operations. CrewBlast uses the same technology in its app to connect hiring yachts with job-hunting crew. Specifically, when a yacht needs to fill a role, CrewBlast sends a push notification—a Blast—to the mobile devices of crew who have the right qualifications. Those crewmembers therefore can reply immediately. Additionally, the company has a global reach, so neither yacht operators nor crewmembers are limited by geography.
Another reason the company believes its approach will work: the rapid adoption of its app in aviation. It experienced high demand in just its first few months in aviation. The company adds that more positions exist in yachting to fill than in aviation. Furthermore, it points out that the higher turnover rate in yachting puts even more pressure on yachts to fill roles.
The CrewBlast app is available in the Apple App store and the Google Play store.
