We’re getting our best looks yet at the first of the WiderCat 92 yacht series, progressing toward completion at Wider Yachts’ shipyard in Fano, Italy.
Exclusively for sale through MarineMax in the United States, the WiderCat 92 yacht is the biggest model in Wider Yachts’ range of hybrid-powered catamarans. The shipyard only offers hybrid propulsion, a system it developed with industry partners. Electric motors using permanent magnet technology couple with thrusters, while two variable-speed gensets produce energy. A bank of lithium iron phosphate batteries store the energy. Wider yachts calls it the Wider Serial Hybrid System. Ultimately, the WiderCat 92 yacht should cruise typically at 12 knots but see a boost to 15 knots with the electric energy. Additionally, the power-management system should ensure a range exceeding 1,600 nautical miles at 8 knots. If you want to go farther, the system should allow a 2,400-nautical-mile range at 6 knots.
For those of you wishing to minimize emissions even more, the batteries promise covering 27 nautical miles at 6 knots. Finally, the battery bank can handle all air conditioning and other hotel loads for 12 hours straight at anchor. Solar panels feed the battery bank everyday, so any energy not consumed otherwise becomes available to use.
With this first hull on schedule for delivery next year, the WiderCat 92 yacht benefits from the super-beamy stance of her twin hulls. Maximum beam is 39 feet (12 meters), in fact, especially benefitting the main-deck master stateroom. It occupies about half of the overall 1,076 square feet (100 square meters) of usable space here. Friends and family who get the staterooms below decks won’t feel cramped, though, the way some catamarans squeeze in staterooms. Two of the guest accommodations have fold-open platforms, connecting to the terrific beach club. The beach club, by the way, is 721 square feet (67 square meters), far more ample than any similar space in this size range. Therefore, it’s easy to imagine the VIP guests in the adjoining staterooms taking advantage of literally stepping out every day to enjoy watertoys, a swim, or just taking in the views.
Wider Yachts has sold a handful of hulls already, all with launch dates through to 2024.
