While dozens of motoryachts will make it to the Monaco Yacht Show, sailing enthusiasts have options, too. This year’s in-water fleet ranges from a cruising ketch to a veritable floating museum. They all prove that despite the space advantages of power projects in the superyacht world, sailors still can and do get creative. These are the show sailing superyachts you should definitely see.
Art Explorer, by The Italian Sea Group
Yacht owners and the superyacht industry were all surprised when The Italian Sea Group announce this catamaran in 2021. Art Explora, which now goes by the name Art Explorer, is the brainchild of Frédéric Jousset. Jousset is a tech entrepreneur and arts patron. He’s further the founder of Art Explora, a foundation striving to introduce art and culture to new audiences around the world in creative new ways. Art Explorer plays a central role in that, serving as an ever-changing art gallery that will cruise to global ports. With styling and design by Axel de Beaufort and Guillaume Verdier, the 153-foot (46.5-meter) should launch shortly in Italy. She started as a project under The Italian Sea Group’s Admiral division, but may instead officially be a Perini Navi project. Regardless, she’ll further be the world’s largest sailing catamaran.
Fancy, by Nautor Swan
Fancy is hull number one of the Swan 108 series, inaugurating a new maxi generation. Essentially, this means that she’ll still race, but she also emphasizes notions like enjoying the indoor-outdoor lifestyle. A wider stairway and entrance from the coachroof’s aft end to the main lounge is one such difference. The carbon-composite sailing yacht also has a never-before-seen feature. Specifically, her transom and part of her aft deck flip down to form a beach club.
White Island, by Aegean Yacht
A classic-looking, two-masted ketch, White Island features design and engineering from an entirely in-house team. That includes interior design, too. Aegean Yacht is based in Turkey, dating to 1976. White Island is 128 feet (39 meters) LOA, with accommodations for 10 people, including the owners. Notably, the owners acquired the project last summer, after construction had already started. Launch took place this summer.
Although Monaco Yacht Show visitor tickets are on sale now, the Sapphire Experience is for VIPs. Recipients have a dedicated concierge to assist with booking onboard visits, for instance. The concierge additionally arranges sit-downs with the shipyards, designers, and other professionals you wish to meet.
