If you or your captain will be in Italy in March, a tender-only showcase of both new and used models is for you. Mirabello Flute—short for Floating Luxury Tender Exhibition—takes place at Porto Mirabello in La Spezia.
Mirabello Flute is set for March 11 to 14. For your captain’s convenience, it precedes the YARE conference just up the coast in Viareggio. YARE is the Yachting Aftersales and Refit Experience, entering its 13th year. Its dates are March 15 to 17. In fact, YARE’s organizers from NAVIGO, a consortium of Italy-based yachting businesses, are arranging a delegation to visit Mirabello Flute. That takes place on the 14th. Captains can not only board tenders on shore and in the water, but also sea trial them.
The idea for the showcase resulted from a conversation the head of Porto Mirabello had with Pino di Mora, an Italy-based project manager for the yacht-management company Hill Robinson. Both believed a gap existed in the market for this type of event. Until now, tenders have been part of far larger boat and yacht shows. Additionally, they have done so either in small, specific areas or through a handful of exhibitors throughout the show. Alessandro Menozzi, CEO and founder of Porto Mirabello, says, “Porto Mirabello has always worked for the growth of this segment and wants to offer a meeting point between professional operators.”
Pietro Angelini, general manager of NAVIGO, sees Mirabello Flute spurring strong growth potential, too. “Today the tender is no longer just an accessory tool,” he notes. It’s a representation of style, technology, and innovation, he says. It further increasingly represents principles of sustainability, due to owners and crew seeking low- or no-emissions models. (The Hacker-Craft Aquavent Ingenity Series is just one response to this desire.) “The tender is a protagonist boat, visible and full of beauty and fun,” Angelini adds.
