A few things are universal among today’s yacht owners, regardless of nationality or boat size. They are more youthful, they spend most of their days outside while onboard, and they are more active onboard. Diana Yacht Design’s new steel-hulled proposal directly addresses this. The Zenith yacht concept does it by incorporating surprising features never before seen on a superyacht this size.
With a length of 151 feet (46 meters) and a volume less than 499 gross tons, Zenith posed challenges for Nick Hoedjes, an industrial-design engineering trainee at the design studio. He overcame them in rethinking traditional solutions. For instance, one of the primary features he wanted to include was a sizable pool. By having it occupy the side of the aft main deck (above), the glass-walled pool is nearly 15 feet (4.5 meters) long. There’s still space for seating and sunbeds, too.
Speaking of space, the Zenith yacht concept expands the swim platform a whopping 55 percent through fold-down transom sections port and starboard (also above). It becomes a beach-club-like area in conjunction with the bar and sauna inside the glass door, where the tender also stows. A handy head is inside as well.
To further suit young, active clients and their families, Zenith maximizes aft alfresco space overall by reducing the superstructure and shifting it forward. Specifically on the bridge deck, the megayacht makes indoor-outdoor living possible through sliding glass walls. Diana Yacht Design envisions the area forward of the walls (and beneath the hardtop) as a winter garden or gym. Either way, the large settee fully aft sits on a fully rotating platform, to turn toward the sea. The eight-person crew can set up a movie screen to transform the space into an alfresco nighttime cinema as well.
With a 28-foot (8.5-meter) beam, the Zenith yacht concept further has surprises inside. The 10 guests, including the owners, have a round aquarium to enjoy in the main-deck lobby. Floor-to-ceiling glass makes the saloon, with dining area, light and bright. A big window in the owners’ office happens to also be in the middle of a fold-down balcony.
Diana Yacht Design has a full general arrangement available for personal input, and for consultation by a shipyard.
