This year, the International SeaKeepers Society conducted 15 scientist-led expeditions, as well as 20 citizen science trips. It facilitated these and more ocean-conservation efforts due to donations from supporters. One particular SeaKeepers donor has pledged to match contributions made through December 31. In fact, the person is doing so, dollar for dollar, up to $10,000.
Entering its 22nd year, the International SeaKeepers Society is striving to expand its programming. Besides the above-mentioned accomplishments, it also organized 16 educational-outreach events. (On an annual basis, more than 100,000 students learn about ocean conservation and preservation thanks to the organization.) In addition, it conducted 27 community-engagement events with youth organizations and schools both in the United States and Singapore. All of this came via the organization’s Discovery Yachts program, which assists scientists and researchers.
Although the SeaKeepers donor is anonymous, he or she recognizes the awareness-raising efforts and scientific assistance resulting directly from the organization. Additionally, the SeaKeepers donor wants word to spread about these efforts. Furthermore, he or she wants to encourage others to join the cause. This can be as simple as participating in the volunteer-driving trash-collection days. In fact, SeaKeepers says it helps collect more than 1,000 pounds of garbage each year.
All SeaKeepers donations are tax deductible due to it being a 501(c)(3) organization.
