Charity and the cruising lifestyle go hand in hand at the annual Boys & Girls Clubs Rendezvous. Now in its 29th year, the event is the world’s largest annual gathering of megayachts for a cause. And, you can play a part.
From November 10 to 12, the Boys & Girls Clubs Rendezvous will take over part of Fisher Island, Florida. As the event name states, the beneficiary is the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County. Through its 12 physical Clubs, the non-profit serve more than 12,500 at-risk kids, ages six to 18. You can attend, and help raise much-needed funds, via land or yacht packages. Should you decide to take your yacht, you’ll be in good company. The Fisher Island Marina has 20 slips, capable of accommodating megayachts exceeding 150 feet.
Either way, you get to enjoy a variety of events. There’s the opening-night “Dine Around the Docks” Yacht Hop, for example. The owners and chefs of the participating yachts—which can include yours—typically try to outdo one another with their hors d’oeuvres and hospitality. A poolside fashion show is set for daytime on November 11. That evening, there’s a “Mad Hatters” theme party, where you can roam among food stations while listening to the in-demand cover band No Limits. There’s also the Luxe Collection, a silent auction where you can bid on luxury products and services.
The final evening, November 12, sees the “Queen of Hearts” Red Ball Gala. Dinner and dancing—to the famed pop band Huey Lewis & the News—are in the mix. So, too, is the induction of Christine Lynn, a longtime megayacht owner and supporter of the Clubs, to the Dream Makers Society. The Dream Makers Society is comprised of individuals who have supported the organization for at least a decade. They have further served a significant role in the creation of a program or event for the Clubs, plus donated more than $1 million to the Clubs.
Something else sets the Boys & Girls Clubs Rendezvous apart from other charitable events: the barbecue. Scheduled for November 12, it welcomes a number of youngsters who benefit from the Clubs. So, you get to hear straight from them the difference the organization makes in their lives.
That difference is significant. Over its nearly 30-year run, the Boys & Girls Clubs Rendezvous has raised more than $30 million. Those funds have helped the 12 Clubs’ members go on to college and even enroll in boatbuilding programs.
Individual tickets for the Rendezvous cost $1,500. Yacht packages start at $9,500. Visit the website or call (954) 537-1010 for details.
