The 36th America’s Cup takes place in March 2021, with Auckland, New Zealand as the host city. With nearly a dozen events specifically for visiting yachts leading up to the race, superyacht slips are booking up. If you plan to attend either the America’s Cup in Auckland or the prior festivities, you only have a month left to confirm interest.
The Asia Pacific Superyachts New Zealand office is handling all superyacht requests. It is doing so on behalf of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Duthie Lidgard, the Asia Pacific Superyachts New Zealand office director, and his team are handling not just slip reservations, however. They are further arranging accommodations ashore, helping secure visas, and recommending what to do in the region.
In addition, the office can secure slips for and participation in yachting events prior to the America’s Cup in Auckland. For instance, the NZ Marine Superyacht Fishing Competition takes place February 15 to 18, 2021. Six days later, you can compete in the Millennium Cup Superyacht Regatta. Furthermore, the highly anticipated J Class Regatta, where nearly all Js will race, starts on February 28. The yacht squadron has a detailed calendar listing of racing and cruising events for all of 2021, should you wish to extend your stay.
Already, multiple megayachts have inquired about slips at the two official marinas for the America’s Cup in Auckland. Viaduct Marina and Silo Marina have availability starting October 1, 2020, ending March 31, 2021. John Matla, marina manager for the two properties for the Cup, says formal expressions of interest are due before the end of next month. Both private yachts and charter yachts can book slips, too.
If you have yet to inquire, email Lidgard with the dates you wish, your LOA and gross tonnage, and your electrical requirements.
