If you’re an Instagram user, you may be one of the nearly 54,000 followers of the charter yacht Loon. The 180-footer (54.86-meter) is perennially popular among cruising vacationers, especially Americans. In advance of her heading to Europe, her captain is spreading the word that he and the owners believe accepting Bitcoin will welcome “a new wave of charter guests on board.”
Loon is one of several yachts recently turning to crypto currency as an option. Some brokerage and charter firms accept it, too, including Denison Yachting, which began accepting crypto in 2014. Capt. Paul Clarke of Loon says, “We believe Bitcoin is the future of global currency.” In fact, he continues, the yacht’s team regularly seeks out new ideas and ways of operating. “Accepting Bitcoin fits perfectly with these principles and supports inclusivity, especially for the younger generation of charter guests who are often more comfortable with a decentralized currency.”
One of the first events where you can book the charter yacht Loon is the Monaco Grand Prix. She has a trackside berth in Port Hercules, a prime spot. Additionally, the yacht has availability during the Cannes Film Festival. Two further weeks mid-season in the Med remain open, too. While Loon arrives in May and departs in October, her schedule is otherwise nearly entirely booked.
Among the reasons why: She enjoys strong repeat business. The voluminous, 1,100-gross-ton megayacht has abundant areas for 12 to enjoy on charter, plus a wide variety of toys. Her FunAir slide and inflatable pool are popular, as is her PADI dive center’s gear. The crewmembers include a professional surfer as well as a professional kiteboarder. Add in a spa and the overall polished Claudette Bonville Associates décor, and there’s more to enjoy. Specifically for the race or film festival, her spaces are commodious enough to host a 100-person party. Finally, an onboard videographer captures guests’ experiences, ultimately creating a custom video guests can share.
Equally noteworthy, the charter yacht Loon’s crew gives back. For instance, they collaborated with YachtAid Global in 2019 for Hurricane Dorian relief.
