Azimut Yachts has tasked itself with providing hybrid or full-electric power on as many projects as possible. Simultaneously, it’s tasking itself with raising the bar on the luxury its customers have come to expect. The Azimut Grande 44M does both, in 144 feet (44 meters) of length and four decks.
The biggest-ever Azimut, this megayacht already had five customers lined up with contracts before the shipyard publicly announced her last month. To reduce emissions, the shipyard’s technical team and P.L.A.N.A., a naval-architecture firm, created a version of the Dual Mode hull already in use on smaller Azimuts. Briefly, this hull design marries planning-yacht benefits with fast-displacement yacht benefits. Secondly, the shipyard decided to incorporate a first-ever “wing” with the hull design. The wing is a hydrodynamic wing, sitting parallel to the stern, which reduces the wake plus creates better momentum. It’s from Hull Vane, which has pioneered the use of this proven system within the yachting industry. Altogether, the design elements should see 20 to 30 percent lower emissions compared to traditional planning hulls.
For the luxury spaces, Azimut and Alberto Mancini rim the decks with 6’6”-high (2-meter-high) windows. The effect is like being in a glass house, no matter which of the four decks you’re enjoying. And yes, you read that correctly: The Azimut Grande 44M has four decks. Typically, superyachts in the 140-foot range are tridecks. To prevent the design from looking too top-heavy, Mancini penned long lines and strong usable space inside and outside.
Speaking of usable space, m2atelier is working with each of the customers to tailor the interiors to their tastes. One of the most impressive areas onboard is the upper deck. It can convert into an entirely private owners’ deck, if customers don’t want it to be an upper lounge, or a media room. Imagine waking up to stunning views everyday. The stateroom can sit either forward or fully aft, too, for a literal the-sky’s-the-limit experience.
