Every semi-custom superyacht reflects the owners’ personality. Still, builders and designers need to do something special to capture potential customers’ attention when introducing a new series. ISA Yachts and Enrico Gobbi – Team for Design chose to break with traditionally “safe” styling and interior designs with the ISA Unica 40 yacht. Instead, they blend what they believe are the best current aesthetics, creature comforts, and functional solutions in a way that others have not.
With a volume of 390 gross tons and an LOA of 131 feet (40 meters), the ISA Unica 40 yacht prioritizes looking and feeling spacious. A significant part of this, of course, is due to big expanses of glass along the main and upper decks. So, too, the length of some decks, especially the flying bridge, are impressive. Fore to aft, it’s nearly 52 feet (16 meters) of sunning, lounging, dining, cocktailing, and soothing relaxation in a hot tub.
The way decks unfold, though, really emphasizes the sensation. The ISA Unica 40 yacht surely will grab buyers’ attention aft. From the waterline up two further decks, owners and guests have fluid, uninterrupted views of anchorages and approaching shores. The uppermost level, the main deck, has a glass balustrade, too, inviting everyone onboard to sit and linger longer. Furthermore, it looks and feels connected to the glass-front pool and the adjacent lounge immediately below. By contrast, most owners hardly use the aft decks, other than for breakfast or occasional lunch.
ISA Yachts and Enrico Gobbi – Team for Design brought some new ideas to the interior, too. In the owners’ suite, for example, a sliding door separates the sleeping area from the rest of the amenities, including the office and bath. Back in the saloon and dining area, a floating stairway is as much an art statement piece as it is the most practical way to access the upper deck.
Speaking of the upper deck, the ISA Unica 40 yacht provides a flexible, multi-use alfresco zone perched fully forward. A big sunpad/lounge faces the sea, while an adjacent, even larger seating area can accommodate all 10 passengers with room to spare. Here again, although most builders and designers commonly include a settee, it’s typically a far smaller seating arrangement. Cozy can be appealing to some, but with the increasing trend of multi-generational families cruising together, bigger sometimes is better.
Anticipating all-aluminum construction and a 3,300-nautical-mile range at 14½ knots, the ISA Unica 40 yacht is still a project on paper. But customers surely are eyeing the design as a way to express their special character.
