Two years after Wally revealed it was building her on spec, the first wallywind 110 yacht is nearing delivery. First, though, she needs to take a long journey from inland Italy to the sea.
Ushering in a new cruiser-racer series, the project is in build in Forli, where Wallys and other Ferretti Group brands undergo construction. (The Ferretti Group acquired Wally in 2019.) Forli is about 25 miles (40 kilometers) from the ocean, therefore requiring the yacht make the trip via truck. Naturally, Wally has handled the logistics many times previously. But, it still requires avoiding tree branches and removing some road signs, due to the dimensions of the sailing superyacht. Her LOA is just shy of 110 feet (33.42 meters), while her beam is 25 feet (7.6 meters). Once in the water in Ravenna, her 23-foot-long (6.95-meter-long) telescopic keel will go in place. So, too, will her carbon fiber rudders and 157-foot-tall (48-meter-tall) Hall Spars rig.
With delivery pending for early June, sea trials will put the all-carbon-fiber hull and her gear to the test. That hull is by Judel/Vrolijk & Co., pairing with in-house, sleek styling. The first wallywind110 yacht will spend time in the Med, alternating racing in regattas with pure pleasure cruising. For the latter, guests arriving from shore will no doubt first note the ample cockpit. Here, settees and sun lounges will welcome them amid 861 square feet (80 square meters) of single-level space. Additionally, it’s entirely leisure space, since all sail controls are aft of here. Farther aft, meanwhile, the wallywind110 yacht places more lounges/sunbeds on a terrace-like platform, with yet more fully forward.
Although Wally still hasn’t revealed the interior configuration, owners can tailor the looks and layout to their liking. Similarly, paint colors are for them to choose, with this client picking a light-metallic blue that should adapt to light conditions.
Luca Bassani, Wally’s founder and chief designer, is excited that this cruiser-racer coincides with the company’s 39th anniversary. “Wherever you turn the dial between cruising and racing, a Wally yacht will always be fast and innovative,” he asserts. “That is why the brand remains a beacon of light for passionate sailors.”
In related news, work has begun on a second hull in the series.
